Helping The Bennie Group align and coordinate its digital strategy

The first Bennie business, set up over 75 years ago, has remained true to its family-run values, and its long-term partnership with Phew Internet has been a good match.

Context

The Bennie Group was set up in 1939 and is now run by a third generation of the Bennie family.  Comprising of seven B2B and one B2C business, it runs: Barton Plant (earth-moving and groundworks), Boughton (topsoil & growing media), GardenTopsoilDirect.co.uk (online topsoil products sold direct to consumers), Ken Hall (orthopaedic footwear), Midland Fork Lifts and Paramount Fork Lifts (fork lift truck hire, sales, service, parts and training in Kettering and Nottingham respectively), Peter Bennie (quarrying and minerals producer) and Barton Civils (civil engineering contractor).

How have we helped?

Phew initially started working with one of the Group businesses, Midland Fork Lifts, in 2007. Having delivered value and improved services, Phew was introduced to the wider Group from 2010, as a complete Group re-brand meant there was a need to start developing new websites for each of the eight divisions.

What have we done?

  • Digital design and development for all individual businesses in The Bennie Group and the eight group websites
  • SEO strategy and implementation
  • All of the Bennie sites are now responsive for tablets and mobile users
  • Account management at both a Group and individual division level
  • Completed platform migration to support a growing e-commerce business for GardenTopsoilDirect.co.uk

What about the impact?

The Bennie Group wanted to ensure it had a consistent identity for the Group and each of its brands online – and after the initial build and development – a set of websites that the team could easily maintain, edit and refresh.  Ensuring that each division is linked to the Group and that there’s visibility of the other brands it operates provides reassurance and reinforces the family brand ethos to customers.

What’s next?

We’re continuing to support The Bennie Group and in the short term, the focus will be on helping each division to implement and develop all the digital aspects of their business plans, as well as improve the conversion rates for all sites.
